Social Media Workshop
April 18, 2023
The use of technology is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Smart phones and computers now allow people to be virtually connected nearly all of the time. School employers are now increasingly finding themselves in circumstances where a school employee’s personal social media usage is seen by various members of the school community and raised as a concern regarding an employee’s fitness to work with or around children. Has social media become such a problem that school employers need to adopt personal social media policies that address an employee’s professional obligations in a virtual school community environment? Should school employers subject school employees to work discipline for personal social media usage that fails to adhere to the ethical standards of the education environment? This workshop addresses these and other issues relevant to school districts.
