Leave Law Workshop

Schools Legal Service is excited to present a new comprehensive workshop on approving and administering employee leaves. This workshop will discuss how to properly administer and coordinate employee Education Code and statutory leaves of absences. The presentation will cover the expansion of employee rights under the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), and how California law differs from the rights provided under the federal Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA). These topics will be followed by a detailed discussion of Pregnancy Disability Leave, including Lactation Accommodation, and how it interacts with Education Code Parental leave. After these topics, the presentation will discuss both certificated and classified Education Code sick leave, extended sick leave, industrial accident and illness leave, bereavement leave, and classified vacation. The final component of the program will include interactive examples of employee leave progressions to provide attendees with visual tools to assist in understanding how to apply the material covered.
